Dear researchers!

EURAXESS Estonia team is glad to invite all international researchers working at Estonian R&D institutions as well as their family members to a long-awaited networking weekend that will take place from 9th to 10th June! This time we are going to the Lahemaa National Park (Est the land of bay; lahe – of bay, maa – land) area in North Estonia where we will do some communal voluntary work and sightseeing.

Have you ever heard about or participated in talgud, communal cleanup campaigns so popular in Estonia? Join our event and you will experience how talgud do actually work!

About the agenda

On the first day of our networking event at Lahemaa, we will clean and open up a bit of the ancient landscapes of the Muuksi area (Hundikangrud, Muuksi Fort Hill). Lunch will be served at the Loksa Shipyard. We will spend the afternoon doing minor maintenance work (cutting small bushes, brushing sidewalks, gathering modern trash) at a very exotic place, the abandoned top secret Soviet millitary marine complex and ship demagnetisation Institute at Suurpea.

In the evening we will go the Viinistu Hotel to have dinner, network and enjoy sauna.

Our second day will start with a few short presentations from our researchers introducing their work. Then we will continue to the Mohni Island, where we will have a short walk (3 km) and hear about the unique assemblages of mosses there. Mohni is a photographers’ paradise! When back on mainland we will have lunch at Viinistu and continue with the bus excursion to see erratic boulders, old traditional villages at Võhma, see local lovely cows, the Baltic Klint, old burial sites and stone graves and the Ilumäe Chapel. Our destination for the second day is Palmse Manor, where we will have a guided tour of the manor complex, enjoy 5 o’clock tea and say goodbye.

The agenda may be a subject to minor changes.
